Talking Attacked online for dumbell rowing off the rack. Thoughts on doing it off the rack?

The rack I dumbell row at starts at 75lbs ( 75 the lowest weight in the rack of ofcourse and I was doing 136 ) so there is no one else Really there, empty gym, I'm not obstructing anyone and if you're rowing above 100lbs, most benches are not stable enough to support you and that weight so you gotta lean against some heavy ass dumbells. Even after pointing that out people still were saying " STEP AWAY FROM THE ****ING RACK " with no logical reason and I got banned 😂😂 Do you guys row off the rack? And what's your reasoning?

If you're big enough to row 135s then you can stabilize it on a bench. On the rack would be like a kroc row which you probably aren't advanced/enhanced enough to need.

how bad are the benches that you can't lean on them with that weight in the other hand

also it's perfectly possible to db row without leaning on anything

They're really old. So old they wobble when sitting on them and they probably weigh 25lbs

I guess I've been doing Kroc rows this whole time then...but leaning against the heavy dumbell rack

Gym benches are designed to support hundreds of pounds. Either the benches in your gym are ass or you're making up a reason to do your thing.

Honestly I cannot stand when people lift right be the rack. There is no excuse for it; just use a bench or lean against some piece of equipment where you won't be in anyone's way.

I'm not making that up. They really are horrible. There are some better ones but they're on the other side of the gym and there the dumbells only go up to 100lbs

It's kind of annoying when I have heavy weight and someone is doing that right where I'm traveling to to put them back. Pretty much any other time I'm fine with it though.

I can understand that would be obstructive in a dumbell rack where there's light weights and lots of people and I haven't done them there ofc. Today actually in a 2 hour span I didn't see one person go to the 75 -136 dumbell rack, I mean most people in gyms are not strong enough to use those anyway so it's pretty handy if you wanna be alone. And infact there's more people waiting for benches always than that particular heavy dumbell rack so I don't see a problem with it, especially since there's usually only one of the wobbly benches infront of the rack, it's a pretty open room. If someone happened to come along Though and wanna use a particular set of heavy dumbells I'm not gonna stand in their way

What I've noticed a couple times lately is someone occupying a bench/sitting apparatus in order to work out in the general area next to it and not use it at all. Like, one person was doing shoulder raises next to a flat island bench and it became an issue when someone wanted to use it, and they said "I'm trying to work out next to it, so yeah you're in the way." And another person posted all their stuff at one station with explicit intent not to use it. They weren't actually interfering with me as they made sure to go where I wasn't, but it was funny nonetheless.

You're making them ask when they shouldn't have to. A lot of people won't bother.

OP, someone *online* complained to you, or someone in your *gym* complained? That makes a big difference in how much you should care.

I'd rather someone take up the db rack for one set than take up a whole bench for multiple sets. If I need that part of the rack then I can just ask the person between their sets. If I need the bench then I have to wait for them to finish completely.

I assume this was online, since I doubt a gym would ban someone for this (unless Planet Fitness recently started stocking 135 lb dbs). I also doubt anyone in an almost empty gym would walk over to someone rowing 135s off the rack to start something.

it is bad to lift anywhere near the rack, just poor gym etiquette. Totally understandable if you got banned from somewhere. On the other hand, you are still here. I need to advice moderators. Mod! MO-O-DD!!!!

Yeah online, It was so bad it actually got me banned off the forum. ( Reddit ) that's how much it pissed people off that I was rowing leaning against a rack ( in an empty gym ) they didn't care if I was alone. They just said DONT DO IT !!!! I don't think I'm in the wrong and I'll keep doing it but i felt like asking on here and see what kinda views people have on it around here. A few here seem to think you should take up a bench though. I don't see why

You do you, youre working out so do it how you want. If thats how you prefer doing it then keep doing it haha!

Seriously, what is wrong with people always bitching about stupid stuff.
How long does a set of db rows take? How big of an impact is this having on the lives of other gym members?

I agree, the rack is much easier, especially with heavier dumbbells.... I've gone over 200 on db rows, no way I'm hiking those bastards across the gym, lol.
I don't see any value in walking around the gym with that heavy of a db, just to support yourself on a wobbly bench...

So happy to lift in my garage!

um maybe because you are preventing people needlessly from either racking their weights with heavy DBs in their hand or preventing other people from getting dumbbells?

an empty gym is one thing but if you are doing it if the gym is at least half full it's a scumbag move.

At my gym sometimes I don't re rack my weights till the end of my workout. And I never wipe up the benches. I also workout shirtless occasionally, ain't no one gonna tell me what I can or can't do.

My garage gym is the best...
