How to avoid using lats when using cable crossovers (chest)?

I trained for the first time in 4 years today and lost my mind muscle connection on the cable crossovers at the end. I was engaging my lats in certain parts of the movement. How to stop this?

Also I've forgotten.... what height should I be setting the cables to? I was using a higher setting (above my head).

Lastly, should I be squeezing the handles at the end of the movement when the handles come close together, or do you open your hands up and spread your fingers when the handles get close together at the squeezing part of the movement?

Particular focus is my upper chest.

You can't avoid some activation on the eccentric - unless you just drop the weights onto the stack like a tool.

This doesn't really matter. It's not like the lats can take over from the pecs - they perform the opposite movement after all. Just because you feel a muscle doesn't mean it's working hard enough to train, this often happens with eccentrics and isometric holds.

Cross your hands all the way over and lighten the weight by maybe 1 notch. People for some reason don't do this but if you do it right now you'll feel the upper chest muscles tighten up way more than just bringing your hands together. I also think if you work out more you'll lose the feeling in your lats.
