    Increase punching power with claping push ups ?

    Hi, I am looking to increase my punching power thanks to claping push ups but I don't know how many reps I should do and or to increase ( If I should add more reps or idk).. What I usually do is 20 claping push up. 1 minute rest. 4 set

    Have you ever thrown a punch? It involves a lot of hip rotation which you wont get from clapping pushups.

    Clapping pushups teach you how to push off explosively, but that really isnt the same as throwing a punch.

    Are you doing bag and mitt work as well? Those go a lot longer in developing punching power than push ups.

    Power is the ability to create strength quickly. Mostly is natural, the rest is coaching. I'd rather be punched by a 500 bencher than floyd Mayweather.

    I am a boxer and probably train more than you in a week than you in a month lol I know how to throw a punch and what it involves. My question is simple and I know why and what I am asking so if you won't answer it trying to act smart, don't waste your time, thanks.

    You can punch as hard as you like with clap pushups but your fists are gonna hurt if they can't take the pressure. Take it from somebody that's done a bunch of clap pushups but still hurt their fist when they tried to punch something.

    I think any type of push exercise will increase strength in a punch, however the clap push up is good because you have to be quick to the ground as well. I would say great exercise for it.

    This is a key take away. If you're truly training for power it should be explosive sets of 1-3. Add weight not reps. No way you're moving relatively explosively on the 20th rep. Also don't need to clap, plyo push-ups would work just as well.

    Power comes from the hips... do anything you want with your pecs/shoulders/arms pushups, bench, curls whatever... if you want to hit harder, it has to start from the hips.
