    Lightbulb Work the young

    I might be a little young to be working out or trying to but, at camp (yes I go to camp) I met some awe inspiring people, one who was bullied and worked until he could bench 140 at 14 and is now 15 and another who would stick with me through thick and thin. This is why I want to workout but here’s the problem. I don’t know what to do. I need anyone’s help to help me workout.

    Pick a program and get started! I have recently started Fierce 5 Novice and like it quite a bit so maybe try it if you have access to equipment. Either way just make sure you latch onto and never let go of your motivation - you’re at a great place right now so grab a plan you can stick with and the sky is your limit!

    How old are you? What sports do you play? What do you have access to? There use to be a decent PDF file from the Mayo Clinic regarding kids and lifting. One of the take away's from that is that pre-pubescent kids can build muscle following moderate weight and higher rep ranges. No need (or benefit) of working a high percentage of a 1rm or even measuring your 1RM. As a younger person you are probably best suited for learning how to lift, learning the lifts, and concentrating on form instead of how much weight you can move. The trick is finding a place where you can learn. I was lucky when my kids were young. Our local YMCA had a program to teach younger members how to lift. Once they went through the program they were able to use all of the equipment, some by themselves, some with adult supervision. Then when they were finishing up 7th grade they joined the HS summer strength and conditioning program and later the HS winter strength and conditioning program. In any case, you want to learn how to lift properly and then start on a good beginner program.
