    Best food scale?

Never kept track of macros but looking to shed some fat and want to try it. Is the food scale sold here on bb.com a good choice? Easy to use and accurate? Or is there another brand thats more preferred?

IMO any as long as it has a tare function and is flat and preferably glass (easier to clean); multiple units is always good too.

Interesting. That 0.01 gram feature would come in handy for stuff like leucine and citrulline mallate. The 1 gram scales are usually not 100% accurate when it comes down to 1 or 2 grams.

    I'm currently using this one:

Very nice, I like the glass on it, looks very sturdy as well

Yea that 0.01 g ability was what I needed; had another one that just measured 1g upwards and couldnt accurately measure grams especially if .5g was needed etc

Also I'd consider the size (surface area) of the scale. For instance, my scale is somewhat smaller and if I put a big plate on it, it's hard to see the numbers because the plate covers the numbers. If I could turn back time I would go back and buy a bigger scale.

Yes, still use this one, very sturdy and accurate, great for larger food items etc

When I travel I use another (link below) cause of its size and it's faster than the above scale however it's tiny with only a 200g max I believe

I currently use the tiny one below for weighing the leucine most times

I find it's slightly more accurate for the lower gram items such as leucine, creatine, etc

Thanks, yes I was wondering how accurate it was. I think it's better to have an extra, smaller one for leucine.

I got a glass top one at Target a few years ago and like it a lot. Easy to clean and batteries last for 6 months or more, used every day.

The smaller one is more accurate I would say

Also I have had it 3 yrs and it just doesnt stop going! Been thru hell with tons of food, etc spilled on it and survives

Here is a pic now when I weighed the leucine, nice and accurate at 5g

Boo, you still using that one?

    I need a new one.
I buy a lot of stuff based on recommendation by thesweethome.com. They usually thoroughly test a variety of items in the same class before recommendations.

    http://thesweethome.com/reviews/best-kitchen-scale/

In 2015 I bought this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/American-Weig...+Scale+AWS-100

Inexpensive, still works and accurate ( I checked accuracy with test weights).

The Sweethome is now recommending this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001RF3XJ2...EAAAAAAAAAAH6N

It's made by the same company. It costs twice as much and weighs up to 2 kg. The one I purchased weighs up to 1 kg. The both weigh in 0.01 gram increments.

Here's a YouTube video regarding the one The Sweethome is recommending now:

Has anyone else has issues getting the small kitchen scales to register weights under 10g-15g?

Mine exhibits odd behavior when I slowly/incrementally add amounts that don't pass a threshold of about 10-15g...

For example, if I were to slowly add up to 10-15g of almonds, gram by gram, the scale might not register anything at all and then suddenly show the full amount. However, if I just drop all the almonds on it at once, it will register the full amount.

Yes I did with some I tried in the past

Honestly that one I linked above (the small jeweler one, the Weigh Max) is super sensitive to very small amounts placed on it, I just weighed my leucine and tiny amounts to get it to 5g registered perfectly

I still use it for some food cause a small bowl can fit on it and still see the reading, however it's a 200g max

I see that one on eBay for under 15.00

Funny story with that scale lol.....

I got pulled over by highway patrol once and they called in the drugs dogs so they threw me in the back of their car and ransacked my vehicle

The one obese officer came back and said ah ha holding up that very food scale

I said that's a food scale, you would know that if you ever weighed food which looks like you don't lol

Pissed him off but what a waste of an hour ! Dam

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I was in a store near by (Action) and they had this one for 7 euros. Cheap deal, worth a try. So far so good.

Yes that seems to be common with cheaper scales. I use the same workaround.

It helps to have two different scales. The scales I posted in post 22 for the accuracy you'd need for under a kg, like weighing almonds or a scoop of protein powder. For weighing heavier items, one like this:

Yeah i'm not buying a second scale

I rarely weigh anything anyway unless it's required for cooking/baking.
