    mstatefan91's Back to Basics

    Hey all,

    I've decided that it is time for a new journal. I've had several ups and downs this past year and a half with injury, weight loss, personal issues, money issues, etc..

    But now, I'm getting it ramped back up again. Basically didn't lift from the end of July all the way through August and for half of this month (so 2ish months?).

    Anyway, getting back started with Starting Strength. I'm actually on the second week of the program now and feeling good about it.

    Got some tenderness in my left hip but that isn't to be unexpected when going from squatting once or none a week to three times a week.

    Where am I going from here? No idea. I'm just happy to be back at it once again.



    Workouts to be posted later this afternoon for those interested (if anybody lol)

    Good to hear. I was plugging along at a good rate before I injured myself. Then I stubbornly kept putting off letting it heal. Then life got in the way (or rather, I let it get in the way), and well, here I am.

    300x5x3 Vids. Belted. Felt ok. My form breaks down a bit after the third rep of most sets but... oh well.

    200x5x3 Vids. Yes, I know that my pauses are not consistent. I'm trying to decide which I like best. I should probably dedicate whole sets to each method of pausing rather than mixing it within sets.

    I think it is something that has come about due to a lack of consistent squatting. I'll definitely keep an eye on it and see if I can review some old videos that may or may not have a front view.

    Thanks man. Everything is actually starting to feel easier (especially bench). I knew I was playing with fire by starting at 275 squat and 175 bench, but I felt like my body would catch up relatively quickly, and it seems to be doing just that.

    I would add to start the squat more upright too. You are bent over a little at the start. Nice looking squats overall though!

    Nice lifts. Friendly critique: as discussed some knee-bow out of the hole on the squats. Your earlier vids are excellent tho, so it's prob just you getting back into the flow of things.

    I thought for bench you look pretty loose in the hole. When you initiate leg drive you get a bit more movement then you would if your glutes and hams were firing. Also maybe your flaring your elbows a bit too earlier? That may just be a matter of personal preference. Just nitpicking!

    Thanks. Yeah, I've struggled with being bent over pretty much ever since I moved to low bar. Though it has come to my attention that my low bar may be on the extreme side (like way too low). I also think that strengthening my core would help

    I definitely wasn't trying to get too tight on bench. I can ratchet it down. Just haven't felt the need to. Lame excuse, I know... practice makes perfect lol
