Blue Star Nutraceuticals - PPK, Elevate and Glycodrive

First a thanks to Blue Star Nutraceuticals and Gym God for their generous donations during the last OBF contest here on bb.com. I do believe they donated a couple years too. Thx for dazedncnfz for also allowing me to log and answering all my questions on the products.

I will be logging PPK, Elevate and Glycodrive. I did not see the later in the store yet.

So I am 42 years old and still try to work out in the gym like I am 22.

I lift 5-6 times per week and REALLY need to get my cardio and conditioning going. After the OBF i fell off the wagon then went to Vegas and ate and drank far to much. So now here I am to continue getting into better shape. I will get some pics up soon but they wont be pretty. I went into a strength and power mode before vegas where I worked on moving some heavy weight then I did a mini cut for the trip.

diet wise, is an issue for me at times but always a work in progress. My goal is about 300g pro, 150-200 carbs and 60-100 fats. now on weekends ill drop pro down to 200g and add in carbs. gives me some flexibility. I am aiming for about 2500 cals 5 times per week and 3-3.5k twice. I prob weight mid 240s but im not stepping on scale for a few days!

I did start 2 of the products today so I will include my workout. I was starting a different workout but the shoulder didnt like the set up of chest, then delts. I like a push/pull/legs which gives my delt more rest time.

    Products:
    http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bl...icals/ppk.html

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bl...s/elevate.html

    GLYCODRIVE

So the plan is to play around with the Glycodrive and elevate. different dosing times. PRe workouts, post, later in day, varying carb meals for the glycodrive. The elevate same deal, but see how it stacks with ppk and also later in day esp if i need to focus on something.

So last week i did no upper body, I did lower 3x and this week working back into it. so this log will run about a month I think with the products but my cut is 6-8 weeks. Little late into summer but my own fault!

so i took one glycodrive with my post meal along with an elevate. i think i felt the elevate more as I did have the tiredness heading into work after. I only had about 35-40g carbs with the glycodrive as I am low carbing it to clean up bloat then ill raise a bit if i can. Tomorrow I start PPK.

    SO today was chest/delts/triceps.

My warm ups take a while, as I spend time warming up all the joints esp elbows and delt areas. so about 15-20 mins. Band work, etc.

Flat BB presses - working back into these slowly.
    95x15 135x15 185x15 225x15 245x12 255x10

    HS ISO incline presses
    +90x20 +180x20 +230x12 +250x12

Superset them with low incline db flys
    30x15 35x12 40x12

    cable flys
    3-4 sets

Front alt laterals - taking it slow
    15x20 20x20 25x20

standing OHP - tried a couple sets
    55x15 95x15

    Seated OH DB presses
    35x20 40x20 45x20

superset them with side DB laterals
    15x20 25x20x20

    rope pressdowns
    57.5x20 70x20 90x20 97.5x20

Seated machine dips - tris focus
    3-4 sets

single cable tricep cross faces - like the laying db one.
    3 sets per side.

Stretched the tight spots like pecs and delts and moved out.

if u got this far, thx for reading!
Used to be fat, now just fat with a lot of muscle.

    thx mike.

OK so heres what I did regarding this stack.
So with my prework meal, which norm is just some pro but i added some powdered oats to my shake.

    ~2 hours gym: 1 elevate, 1 glycodrive
10-15 mins later about 50g pro and 35g carbs.
about 45 mins after the "meal" i had 1 scoop (which I found out the scooper is heavy so had about 14g of ppk. NOW and I wont always do this to test it, but i added some bulk Cit Mal to this.

so as i am drinking my meal i feel pretty good at 1 cap elevate. it was nice.
Good energy and focus in the gym. Pink lemonade is good, mixes well. I may add a cup of coffee to the PPK to get it about 300g caff.

So now the workout was back and biceps being careful with the bicep. I was going to do cardio and abs but had to go. my allergies are bad right now.

    Misc warm ups 20 mins.

    HS ISO low rows
    +90x20 140x20 180x20 230x15 270x15 290x12

    Wide pulldowns, pronated grip
    80x20 110x20 130x20 150x20 170x20 180x20

    LOw pulley rows
    4 sets

    Incline DB trap raises
    60x20 100x20x20

    Vbar pulldowns
    130x20x20

    DB rows
    60x15 75x15 85x15

    alt db curls
    15x15 20x15 25x15

    Ez bar preacher curls
    30x20 50x20 60x20

    Alt cross body curls
    15x20 20x20

Double cable curls - sort of like a double bicep pose
    2-3 sets

    superset in some facepulls
    3 sets

    stretch out.

Good workout considering I am getting back into it.
Used to be fat, now just fat with a lot of muscle.

So the 1 tab elevate with ppk and some added CM is just short of amazing! This is a great combo!. The focus and energy is amazing. The pump is great but I am adding CM. Soon i wont add the CM see how it goes.

Just took another Glycodrive and having my p28 bagel, 2 whole eggs, scoop of whey and my greens/reds supp. i had a victory bar on way to Drs apt 20 mins before this. Intra was 18 g bcaa and 25g carbs.

I worked in some lower body. had to move since I had another Drs apt.

    10 mins incline walking.

    Seated leg curls
70x20 110x20 150x20 190x20 - then some old guy jumped on bench with my stuff in way, moved it. i respect my elders so moved on.

    Prone leg curls
    100x20 120x20

HS ISO leg ext - singles
    40x20 60x20 80x20

    Superset in standing calves
    6 sets

Smith back squats - tight lower back
    +90x15 +140x15 +180x15 +230x12 +270x12 +300x6

Leg presses, focus on quad sweep - feet close drive knees out
    +180x30 +270x25 +360x25

Superset with some calf raises on leg press
    +180x30 +270x25 +360x25

    pull throughs
    2 sets

    seated calves
    a few sets

    quick stretch

right now, post 1 tab and sometimes pre if i have a meal. If I start taking much more it wont last very long. I will also try 2 tabs in bigger meals. On weekends I could prob take 3-4 pills since I eat MUCH more carbs!

Looks like you had a nice session man, did legs today myself. Knee was feeling good so I went a little longer and hit a new PR on the press

I would not go as high as 3-4 tabs even with a big carb meal. 2 is very strong, I add in 3+ grams of cinnamon with it, if I feel its a major carb meal. So far it has worked VERY well. Something for you to test.

I took the Elevate (1 tab) between meals and I feel a nice moderate feeling of well being. My thoughts are transitioned to words easier. This is what a good nootropic does.

are you using knee sleeves yet?
I use knee sleeves every legs day and works wonders. About to graduate to knee wraps on heavy days.

I use the pull up sleeve on it, its not compression.

I have taken up to 6 total tabs (of Glycodrive) in a day but never more than 2 per meal though.

Nice start to the log and sub'd. Have you used knee wraps before? If you have't I would suggest practice wrapping them. I've seen a few guys that use knee wraps in the gym, however don't use them to their potential.

On Glycodrive: I would suggest not dosing gdas post-wo categorically for multiple reasons: the benefits are somewhat wasted with your body already in peak 'nutrient partitioning' / insulin sensitivity mode and possibly not ideal iirc with first carbohydrate meal following anaerobic activity.

Dosing 1-2 caps with higher carb meals spaced further out from your workout would be better.

its interesting u bring this up cause what i read is different. the post window would be the best time to use a GDA. I had some studies somewhere if i find them ill link them up.

the pre meal is where i dont agree with others, but this is my pers ref. i dont like messing with anything that may make me feel loopy pre workout unless i fully understand where my body is at and the GDA/nutrition partitioner i am taking. i was using another GDA before and i think i had 30-50g carbs pre and the same amount intra and my body wasnt able to digest it fast enough so my blood sugar levels must have crashed and i had sides of going hypo with extra sweating, light headed, etc.

so i picked up a glucose reader and will be using it for this log too. I got rough baselines.

my next concern is having to much fats with the GDA, my understanding is the fats should be limited around the time of taking the GDA but at my level of shape its really not a concern. not like i am lean.

today i had no carbs pre workout, so no Glycodrive.
I took 1 elevate waited a bit had a pro shake.

took scoop of PPK but i added 6g CM to it and away i went.

no after the workout, and between meals i had the other elevate - i got a nice focus out of it. i do like dosing it broken up like this. sorta feel like a get a slow most of the day effect. but i will be trying out different ways of dosing such as 2 preworkout or 2 post like when i got heavy duty stuff at work or even yard work!

Good workout, energy I do some decent vol and i could have kept working out.

So i do take an intra shake too with BCAA/EAA and soem powdered carbs usually, 25-50g.

post i took 2 glycodrives but had to take a pro bar that had 47g carbs. felt good no issues.

    the workout:

chest, triceps, delts, bit of abs. I really need more core work and gotta start adding in conditioning/cardio asap!

Rotary cable warmups - 3 sets, then warm up delts, trap, elbows, etc

Superset cable flys (various heights) and pushups - love this as a pre exhaust or also a finisher.
30x20/x20 45x20/x20 57.5x20/x30 70x20? using upside down BOSU ball for pushupsx25 50x20/Bosux25 -BURN my pecs out.

    HS wide decline presses:
    180x20 270x20 360x16 410x10 dropset 320x8 dropset 270x8 +5 partials

machine horizontal presses with pronated grip:
    3 sets

    move onto some tris

supersets of 2 grips of pressdowns - i did a reverse and a "normal" grip
3 supersets, high reps, like 20 and 20s

Smith reverse presses - something i havent done in while
    2 sets

    smith CGBP:
    +90x20 +140x14 +160x12

    Seated OH DB ext
    60x20 75x20 80x20

    side laterals
    15x20 20x20 25x20 30x20 35x15 dropset 25x6 dropset 15x10

    cable uprights
    2 sets

    3 sets machine crunches

quick stretches for pecs, delts tris.
Used to be fat, now just fat with a lot of muscle.

Nice session bud, 47 carbs though post while its decent, you should (esp with your size) only need 1 cap. I would try the 2 caps if you say double that amount carbs post.

My personal opinion - but I think you would most benefit from dosing outside the peri-workout window. A lot of people find this is more helpful for recomp with reaction to carbs: the Astragin in Glycodrive has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity and decrease blood sugar levels (really helpful when levels are not already raised) in addition to simply helping bloating.

There are recommendations for dosing post - it improves the transport and absorption of AA, vitamins, and glucose - so if you're having a larger meal post workout it can be beneficial for assisting nutrient partitioning. But from what I'm reading peri-workout you're having whey protein + carb powder pre, more powdered carbs intra, and then maybe a bar post. So there are some concerns over you going hypo and using 2 caps for a protein bar post workout is likely not necessary.

In my opinion you'd personally find more benefits dosing it away from workouts with larger real food carbohydrate meals - wouldn't be concerned about mixing fats - just make sure you have substantial carbs.

ok i got ya now, i totally get wut ur saying about trying diff things, so no arguement there.

but theres other ingredients in there too that also increase insulin sensitivity, the ALA, the Van sul, heck even the cinn. the one I am VERY interested in is the berberine. I saw a study that said it was close to what (and i wont say the name) a script med does for diabetics regarding insulin. its still early to say but looks VERY promising!

Too much over thinking going on... my head is going to explode.

Use Glycodrive as directed. While some may not take post-workout because insulin sensitivity is already high, we will still recommend it.

Any meal over 100 g of carbohydrates, increase to 2 capsules per that meal.

Yes, there will be conflicting methods of usage and I'll be the first to tell you, this is a category that still requires lots more research and this will come over time. What I can tell you, is that I have a number of type 1 diabetics using as directed, and they love it.

Enjoy the process, don't over think it.

oh, one thing i wanted to add, and im sure im just being a dope. RE: fats during active window. if we are shuttling nutrients into the cells, dont we not want to throw to much fat during this time as it may get more prone to be stored as fat?

i am far from understanding the science and wont pretend i do.

    u know me! :P

well, i am giving this product a full run for its money! testing the heck outta it! one thing is understanding where the low limit is on the carbs for me before i get low blood sugar sides. totally taking out my blood glucose tester this weekend. ill get some readings and post them up. I do love GDA products.

this weekend though...the carbs will fall right along with the pills of glycodrive. really want to see how it does on a "dirty" type meal.

elevate, awesome. took one pre with PPK and later took 1 between meals before I had to do the mowing. I was only on planning on doing part of it, lets just say I did it all and I had to force myself to wait on weed wacking!

So going to be taking my 2 tabs glycodrive with a rice bowl I am ordering from a pizza place. Id est 1/5-2 cups rice, ordering extra chicken on it, mushrooms, broc, onions, etc. Id say least 80 grams carbs prob more like 100g...and i have have some ice cream, maybe. the ice cream is a low carb higher in fat though.

I thought i was working lower today so spent like 20 mins foam rolling and doing mobility, then i checked my log. lol, oh well, cant go wrong with extra foam rolling!

    So was back, biceps, traps.
this bicep felt so so at start, stuck with high rep work, focusing on pulling with elbows on all back worked, helped a lot

    10 mins incline walking.

Supersets of reverse wide pulldowns and Low pulley rows
    5 supersets, high reps

3 sets vbar pull downs, 20 reps each.

    HS ISO low rows, singles
    3 sets

single arm pulldowns, these supp to work lower lats with a slight lean back.
    3 sets

    ez bar curls
    3 sets

    incline db curls
    2sets

    reverse pec dec
    2 sets

    db shrugs
    3 sets

    bb shrugs
    3 sets

20 mins incline walking, up to 10 degrees 3 mph.
Used to be fat, now just fat with a lot of muscle.

If crushing tedious yard work is not a selling point, I don't know what is .

Glad to hear you're liking the PPK / Elevate stack - seeing a lot of positive feedback from users for great energy and focus.

The wife and I took an Elevate yesterday 20 min before going to see Entourage at the movies. Was curious to see if it would enhance our mood. It definitely felt like it put me in an even better mood while watching it! We both felt we were just locked into watching and enjoying it from start to finish.
