Smile Resistance Bands, yay or nay?

    Hey guys,
So I don't really have access to a gym, however, I do have some resistance bands at home which I can use. Do you guys think they are effective in building muscle and causing a hypertrophy response? If so, what exercises should I do?

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks!

    not really.
maybe "toning up" for a woman, but building muscles, compound exercises work the best.

yeah not really, youd be better off going to a local park and doing bodyweight exercises if you CANT join a gym.

    but honestly, join a gym

Why not join a gym doing compound movements, they are easier to progressive overload than using a resistance band. I only use resistance band for stretching and doing band pull-apart.

Just using monkey bars alone, you can do all kinds of body weight exercises:
    Chin ups
    Pull ups
    Wide grip pull ups
    Muscle ups
Dips - tricep dips + chest dips
    Leg raises
    Hanging knee-ins
    Spread-Eagle leg raises

    - - -

But if you want to build muscle, resistance bands really won't help as you're not adding weight or using your own bodyweight which is required in order to build muscle. A resistance band will always be a resistance band.

Seriously, try join a gym or buy a barbell, some plates and some dumbbells.
    My chitty lifts:

    Bench Press: 210lbs
    Deadlift: 248lbs
    Squat: 210lbs

    Alright, thanks mate!

I'll try and join a gym. Then the problem will be how do I do the exercises haha, but I guess people there could probably help me.

Ah don't worry, there's plenty of places online that can assist you with exercises, you're on one of them now. Simply scroll up to the top of the websites and click on "Workouts" and you'll find pretty much every workout possible. Also, try and jump on a training program. I'd recommend Rippetoe's Starting Strength. This will give you a brilliant start and you'll find yourself building huge amounts of muscles in your first half a year or so of training. Good luck and remember to make sure you're eating the correct food, also.

But the answer is yes you can. I prefer to use them for isolation exercises and you need a firm anchor point - usually an upright pole for most of the stuff I do. Does it work without conventional weights? Can't answer that since i have both but I think it does...
