I just opened a tub of protein powder and found what I am pretty sure was rat poop.
I was thankfully able to get a refund, and I emailed the company about it. I really like this brand, but it's really gross and I'm conflicted about what to do. Should I chalk it up to a bad tub or a bad batch, and try buying another one? Or should I just let it go and find another brand? Is this as awful as I'm making it out to be? Or is this a risk that comes with any supplement?
This is my second purchase from this brand.

@stackplates
So does this happen often? Is it possible that it's something else?
EDIT: Oh, NVM. Got to page 2. Mine isn't Shamrock. And there was only one small black unidentifiable object. It was larger than what's pictured there, and it crumpled when I pinched it.Last edited by wittrockiana; 12-31-2012 at 07:01 PM.

No. Unfortunately, I don't have any prior experience with what rat poop tastes like, so tasting the suspected rat poop I found in my protein would have had little deductive import to any conclusion I could have drawn as to whether the small black objects were in fact rat--or perhaps another rodent's--poop. I did, however, compare my visual observations of it to the results of a google image search.

If something like this happens again, bring the contaminants to an entomologist or your local pest control office to have them properly identified prior to taking any additional steps. Nonetheless, I noticed you stated 'Mine isn't Shamrock'.... which probably means this is just another case of O-ring flavored Trutein.

I should have known that someone would try to turn this into a Trutein debacle. I can see how you misinterpreted his comments, but you can rest assured that these incidences will have nothing to do with Trutein. The faulty o-ring incident with Shamrock occurred one time and affected six people, all of whom were left satisfied with the outcome. It was one case and there are not going to be any others. These things happen with other companies, but you won't hear it brought up every day from people persistently trying to tarnish the company's reputation. In the case of Trutein, it was a single glitch throughout the history of production. Given the extra precautionary measures that TruNutrition Sciences has taken, along with the upgrades at their facility, you can assume that these types of threads have nothing to do with Trutein.

regarding the bolded. it was not an isolated incident, i know that a 2nd flavor aside from shamrock shake were affected from contaminated protein/faulty o-Rings.
since you're already saying these things, do u think u can elaborate on the updates to the facility that can ensure that no more incidents like the o rings can happen.

Of all people, an iForce rep is really one to talk. Since forum members do not bring up the whole reason your products were yanked from bb.com, you must think that everyone forgot. Given your company's history of mislabeling chemicals and failing to disclose major allergens, do you care to elaborate on how consumers have any idea what they are getting from the iForce facility, or is it only a matter of time before bb.com is fined millions of dollars again?

I thought it was rather obvious how I arrived at my conclusion.
Cmon man, the o-ring incident just happened recently, and when the op stated 'Mine isn't Shamrock'.... that obviously led me to believe that it was one of the other Trutein flavors.
Dude.... you've seriously got the wrong guy, so take this somewhere else. I have openly recommended Trutein in the past, and I plan on ordering more in the future. Yes it was an unfortunate incident that could happen to any company who neglects the daily inspection of operation equipment. I'm sure you guys [and other companies] have learned from this.~

I was not trying to single you out as a person who is constantly trying to smear the company's image. I was speaking in general because I see misguided remarks about that incident on a daily basis, which has led to pent-up frustration. I normally ignore them but I wanted to set the record straight. You are a highly respected member of this forum and I apologize if I came across as overly defensive.

No worries, and I can understand your frustration. Just keep a link to the post where you set the record straight [or just post a dedicated thread], instead of going through this crap every time.
In contrast however, I can understand thedarce's point of view on the subject, as people just want to be reassured that this won't happen again - many of which are unaware of any official statement fom TNS reguarding the matter.~
