    Upper/Mid Back Pain from sleeping

    Hey guys,

So for the last few weeks or so I have been waking up with pain in my shoulder blade area, extending a bit up and down the right side of my back. It gets better throughout the day, but its still pretty achy. I don't know if this is pain related to how I'm sleeping. It very well could be as I started sleeping on my side to avoid pain in my neck from sleeping on my stomach (wouldn't ya know it). I'm trying to sleep on my back but it's so hard to fall asleep like that. It could be from lifting but I'm not sure as I don't have any pain when lifting.

I want to know what it could be as it is pretty consistent, and what I should do about it?

    Thanks for feedback

I had this problem a long time ago. For me, it turned out to be caused by a strength imbalance between my chest and back. I was focusing too much effort on chest exercises (bench and flyes) compared to back exercises (rows and pullups). Doing more rows (upright rows, bent over rows, seated cable rows) and more pullups / pulldowns fixed the imbalance over time. I have no idea if that's the case in your situation.

It could also be a problem with your mattress. Sleeping on a firmer mattress can help with this kind of problem.

Thanks for the input. While by no means am I an advanced lifter, I have never really been a "chest" kind of guy and always do pullups, rows etc.

The mattress point is interesting. I have a very soft bed, and have gotten many compliments (nom sayin) on how soft it is. I have a mattress pad on top of my mattress. I'll try taking that off.

Sleeping with back pain is still difficult for many people including you. But you should follow some methods to get rid of this problem. Various ways are there like sleeping position, sleep hygiene etc.

Try anyone to get the good quality sleep.
