    What is CS:GO?

    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (also known as CS:GO or CSGO) is the third and latest installment in Valve Software‘s critically-acclaimed Counter-Strike series, which is arguably the most popular and successful multiplayer first-person shooter on the PC in history and has dominated the online action market for more than a decade. It uses the Source engine and is slated for release in the first quarter of 2012 (in Valve Time that is), and will be available on PC as well as Xbox 360 (on the Xbox Live Arcade) and PlayStation 3 (on the PlayStation Network). It is intended to appeal to both casual and competitive gamers.

    Maps:

    Valve has confirmed that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will launch with a total of sixteen maps, eight of which are remakes of classic fan favorites and the other eight of which are new to CS:GO and are designed for the GunGame-inspired Arsenal game modes. So far, twelve maps have been confirmed: classic defusal maps Dust, Dust2, Aztec, Inferno, Nuke and Train, famed hostage maps Office and Italy and four of the new maps, named Shoots, Stmarc, Baggage and Sugarcane.

    Read on for descriptions and selected screenshots of each confirmed map, starting with the eight classic maps.

    DE_AZTEC

    Aztec has always been a popular map in Counter-Strike, and returns in Global Offensive with a major visual upgrade and some minor layout differences.

    DE_DUST

    Dust, another perennial favorite, has been been modified with the addition of a staircase going from underpass to side and some alterations to the position of Terrorist spawn and bombsite A, with the intent of making the underpass a more viable option for attacking Terrorists.

    Largely unchanged beyond a graphics makeover, Dust2 – the most popular CS map of all time – returns in CS:GO.

    DE_INFERNO

    Popular competition map Inferno will also be making a comeback. No information yet as to how significant the changes that have been made to it are.

    DE_NUKE

    Another competitive favorite, Nuke is the last of the five classic defuse maps to return in Global Offensive. Some minor layout changes.

    DE_TRAIN

    The last of the classic Defusal maps to return in CS:GO is the legendary de_train.

    CS_ITALY

    The hugely popular hostage map Italy is back, and more importantly, the infamous chicken from its marketplace is confirmed back after a conspicuous absence from the CS: Source version of Italy!

    CS_OFFICE

    Another map hailing from 1.6 that gained immense popularity among casual players in CS:S, Office will be coming back and retains the winter, snow setting.

    NEW MAPS IN COUNTER-STRIKE: GLOBAL OFFENSIVE ARSENAL MODE

    Arsenal: Demolition and Arsenal: Arms Race are two brand-new game modes in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, based on the popular Gun Game mod / game mode in Counter-Strike: Source. Eight brand new maps will be added to CS:GO for Arsenal mode, including the following four which have been confirmed so far:

    CSGO_SUGARCANE

    Sugarcane appears to take place within a cane sugar mill somewhere in South America. The design of the map (or at least its setting, inside of a warehouse) is reminiscent of cs_assault, a popular map from older versions of Counter-Strike.

    CSGO_SHOOTS

    Shoots takes place somewhere in South or Central America, and judging from the title (see the Wikipedia page) may be set on some kind of illegal drug plantation.

    CSGO_STMARC

    St. Marc takes place in the coastal port town of Saint-Marc, Haiti deep in the Carribean.

    CSGO_BAGGAGE

    Baggage takes place, predictably, in and around a baggage claim area at a modern airport, perhaps in an homage to the popular CS map cs_747.

    Wow, I'm stoked they have this for ps3. I used to play a lot of source when I was in college on my roommate's sweet ass computer. This looks like it has potential. (casual player perspective)

    Man does that bring back some good memories.. I played cs competitively when I was younger, I played in cal-i for a couple of teams in 1.5/1.6

    Why couldn't they just take source graphics and apply it to 1.3/1.5? Bunnyhopping(1.3) and the awp/deagle quick switch from 1.5 should not have been removed from the game

    Not taking any sides because i play both, but I'm 95% percent sure my dbi + mouse sensitivity is faster than any controller sensitivity can get. I'd really love to go 1 on 1 with a xbox or ps gamer. Things could get interesting, although it depends on the player to be honest.

    that goes for movement as well. things such as quick peaks, crouch peaks, and shoulder peaks among other things cannot be done effectively with a controller, not to mention strafing and shooting simultaneously.

    Ya they have supposedly failed on that front though.

    No more strafe shooting, need to pause for 2-3 seconds for crosshairs to settle. Ak/m4 suck, everyone uses krieg and aug

    no, thats not true.

    dynamic crosshair settings should always be 0, and u have always needed to pause to be able to shoot effectively with any gun in cs, ever. i didnt notice a big difference in that aspect in beta. actually, the guns seemed fairly inaccurate, which i like because it makes the skill factor higher. but what i didnt really like was that the spray patterns were quite a bit different then in 1.6 for most of the commonly used guns.

    especially if the date was pushed back im sure alot of these bugs will be fixed by the time of release.

    it can, a lot of platform companies run servers though, such as ESEA and NFO etc. but yea technically they are all dedicated.

    i played cs for years, in one situation you could be strafing, jumping, crouching, aiming and firing at the same time, burst fire glock knows whats up. id love to see someone try that on a controller with the same deadly precision, the fps i play the most currently is halo by the way
