    My fight against MS!

    Cliffs:
    Started working out and lost 15 lbs
    August 2011 had weird medical problems
    Oct 2011 DX with MS
    Gained 15 lbs back
    Lost a ton of muscle
    Must get strong and lose weight before next MS episode

    How?
    Eat right and work out

    Diet:
    Low carb with 50/50 split of protein and fats. 1,800-2,400 cals a day

    Training:
    Mon - Arms
    Tue - Back
    Wed - Chest/shoulders
    Thu - Legs
    Friday - Misc (whatever I feel I need to do)
    Sat/Sun - Off

    My mum has been battling MS for about 35 years. Very harsh disease. But her approach to diet and exercise has been inspiring and puts me to shame. If you're interested I'll ask her about her diet (it's supposed to be specially designed for MS) and send you some info.

    Send me whatever you have! The more info I have the better

    I did some searching before going on a diet and the key is to stay away from inflamatory foods. I pigged out for a x-mas party and started to get really sick and my MS flared up. Went away in a few hours. So eating helthy is a must.

    Most carbed foods cause flamatory effects in your body, so I have to watch it.

    Hopefully you caught it pretty early. My dad's wasn't diagnosed until he was mid 40s, and a lot of damage to his myelin sheath was already done and now he has a lot of trouble walking.

    I also have had 6+ concusions that can cause lesions to appear. So that could be part of it.

    I only have had 1 episode so I hope thats it!

    So... below is what my mum sent me...

    These are the 2 doctors I follow.* They have both written books - of course - but are generous about making information available on their websites.* The second website is subtitled 'Overcoming Secondary Progressive MS' but is just as relevant to people with MS generally.* Mainstream medicine argues that there is no real evidence relating diet to MS but these doctors (both medical) are convinced.

    ...Hope it helps. And not to offer false hope but it's worth looking into some of the stem cell research underway (there's a guy at Cambridge university here in the UK who is a leader in the field). it seems here is hope of a cure in the future... too late for my mum though

    Thanks AJW its appreciated. Anything is worth trying at this point. Maybe I can hand on enough for a cure.

    BTW my work is having a biggest loser contest which I really think I can win. So I slacked off a little on my eating. I want to be able to lose all my water weight real quick when we start so that I can get a jump start on everyone.

    I really wanted to keep working out and eating under my maintence but there is a lot of money involved in our tournament at work and I really think I can win. So I wanted to stay at the same weight or gain a little to give me the edge.

    I have been sick for the last few weeks anyways so it was hard to work out hard at all.

    I went on a business trip and vistied my mom and grandma. So I tried to eat decent during this time.

    I figured I would gain some water weight but I was 191 this morning. So lucky me.
