Question about muscles utilized in the back squat

Greetings, for the oly back squat, which muscles are primarily responsible for getting out of the "hole"? Is it the glutes and hamstrings?

Not to be an *******, but read virtually any exercise physiology site/text. It's the same muscles as almost any other squat. This and the importance of the back squat thread are kind of superfluous subjects.

Your core and leg muscles are your prime movers and squatting will help almost anyone, period. You really shouldn't even have to ask these questions, what with the thousands upon thousands of articles and videos on the internet.

Olympic weightlifting had made me not only stronger and quicker but also better looking and possibly more well-endowed. See what it can do for you!

Don't think about it all that much. Going in the hole and coming back out will work the muscles responsible for it. Not to mention that in olympic squats a large contributer is bounce

Less talk about muscles utilized in the back squat, and more squatting.

This is what people who squat more than you are doing.

Dont make the mistake of thinking of individual muscles, weightlifting is too fast a sport to be thinking of individual muscles activating at different stages. The anatomical beauty of weightlifting is how all the muscles work together, in different roles, to get the barbell from the floor overhead. Instead of individual muscles, think of flexibility while getting your back squat up.

I cannot overstress the importance of flexibility to get out of the hole. How do you get more flexible down there? By deep squatting more and addressing muscular imbalances.

Weightlifting stresses the abdominals and erector spinae. Everything else you can pretty much forget. Weightlifting is pretty slow sport actually. One of the slowest no doubt.

    Note to self:

Takes more of a man to pull some weight off the bar and deep squat than it does to add some weight and go just below parallel.

I don't know why I sometimes forget this and think I am training better by adding more weight.
