If I'm remembering this correctly, TX is one of the few states that's actually been experiencing job growth. I'm not sure what sectors are adding jobs though.
Engineering, tech, and manufacturing related jobs are pretty much like in any other state. Construction and A/E is slower than usual, but there are companies that are still hiring. Are you in manufacturing, testing, HVAC, or something else?
The biggest financial benefits of moving to TX:
No state income tax.
Cheap housing in San Antonio and Austin. I can't really speak for other major cities - I just don't know.
