    Equipment Crew- Part II

    the thread that started it all:
    https://igoodies.000webhostapp.com/?viagra=showth...hp?t=113482731

    as with the last thread, anyone can post here, you don't have to be a member of the 'crew'. it's kind of the equipment forum's bullshtin' spot.

    anyway, my somewhat dodgey knee and i are going squats tomorrow. later ya'll!

    I did the "walking squats" that Levrone does here as his second exercise. Never tried them before. Did 4 sets of 20 - 25 reps with 135lbs and they kicked my butt! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPd3I...layer_embedded

    I like these and will use them on occasion to change things up. I like the combination of feet together squats and normal or wider squats. My workout partner had shoulder surger (rotator cuff) and has trouble holding a barbell on her shoulders. I had her using d/bells (20s) in each hand. She used wraps the first couple of sets and then tried holding/resting the d/bells on her shoulders. We like doing these I just see them becoming a problem for her until she can hold a b/bell across her shoulders. She's been doing squats on my leverage machine so it's not the actual weight on her shouldrs that's a problem. Anyone know of a better way than d/bells? I honestly don't know if it's a range of motion issue with her that won't let her hold the b/bell in place or if it's physical pain, or if she's just scared that position may re-injure her shoulder. Next time we might try it holding the b/bell in a front squat or cleaning position.

    One solution would be to not use a straight bar. A Buffalo bar or a SSB would solve that problem, not sure if you have access to these or can obtain them.

    Gentle, and slowly progressive, shoulder and pec dynamic/static stretching should help some if it's not a pain/immobility issue. I know a lot of shoulder surgeries result in permenantly reduced ROM though.

    Thanks Essex. Is an SSB bar a "Hatfield Bar" the one with the shoulder pads or collar where the bar rests on your shoulders without having to hold it in place? If that's it, I'm looking into getting one of those. It's on the "wish list" just might have to bump it up the ladder.

    Once, at my local gym, I went into the locker room to take a leak. There was this little hairy, naked guy (probably my age) with it swinging down to his knee. He was really showing it off and smiled at me (WTF?!?) and winked. Me, being me, told him out loud, "if you want to impress me with that, have it hold up a barbell with 2 plates a side."

    "I don't have time to lift, I make time"

    Once, at my local gym, I went into the locker room to take a leak. There was this little hairy, naked guy (probably my age) with it swinging down to his knee. He was really showing it off and smiled at me (WTF?!?) and winked. Me, being me, told him out loud, "if you want to impress me with that, have it hold up a barbell with 2 plates a side."

    Yeah safety squat bar, or Hatfield bar, someone Hatfield invented if I recall correctly;

    It does throw you forward more than a regular bar, due to the camber, but she'll be able to free squat without shoulder strain. She could even hold onto the power rack with both hands whilst squatting and it won't fall off.

    A cheaper idea, if buying new, would be this;
    http://topsquat.com/
    Not quite the same as a SSB, because of a lack of camber, but the handles are what you're after anyway. It just clips to your regular bar.

    This is a buffalo bar;

    Very similar to a regular bar, but the bend means you don't have to get your arms so far back to hold it, reducing shoulder strain. Depends on just how bad it is as to whether she could even use this.

    Congrats on capping the old thread. It takes an active dedicated to group to pull it off in that time frame.

    On a workout related note:

    I keep constructing assorted pull-up bars in my quest to accomplish good muscle-ups. I currently have 4 in my basement at assorted heights and configurations. They range in diameter from 1.25" to my beastly 2 incher.

    Ok, so the old thread isn't actually "capped".....I just posted in it a few minutes ago. Are we going forward with this one or do we try to push the old one to 20 grand?

    Jimbo....congrats on the wedding. You've landed an attractive woman there, you......not so much..............

    This isn't the jungle of the misc, but I think most of us are ok with that. Besides, there are enough misc trolls that come here and show their asses that it helps us remember where we are.

    The topsquat from Dave Draper looks like a possibility, over 1/2 the price of a safety bar. I doubt I'll ever see a safety squat bar on CL. You never know though I saw some strongman stones for sale recently on CL in my area. Not sure about the buffalo bar, I'd need to see a picture from the front of that girl using it to decide for sure.

    SS bar

    ...dealing with a herniated disc, I have been looking around at different bars for squatting. Does anyone know if one of the specialty bars actually would reduce stress on the lower back?

    From what I can tell, the SS bar would put the bar higher on your back, so if you're trying to do low bar then it would increase torque...I think.

    It also looks like many of the specialty bars are geared more towards people with shoulder issues than back...

    Animal, what do you think of your cambered bar...do you think you end up using your low back more or less than with a regular bar?

    Hip belt squats. Or if you already have a trap bar give it a go with it.
