    Depression?

Has anyone had depression when they were younger?

Bodybuilding is an emotional journey right?

So i hope i dont feel depressed too much, i think rest/sleep is the answer

Overtraining could cause depressive feelings, also having to stop working out for awhile due to an injury can lead to depression. (less endorphins being released)

When I'm down, working out helps me take my mind off everything, and I just focus on improving myself.

I don't think you guys know what depression is. It's a constant condition not something you feel every now and then.

I have been through depression, and I sometimes still am when I am alone. And no working out doesn't cause depression, because in the Gym you aren't thinking of those things that causes your depression. Its like your in another world, somewhere where your becoming stronger, and you release alot of anger. Well for me anyays, and that is a good feeling IMO. You dont feel empty or you dont ask questions, if your focused on your training and if you reach your goal you'll feel better.

I've been through it and sometimes it still comes up..

My advice is just do everything and ANYTHING you can ANYTIME that improves yourself mentally and physically e.g; working out, going for a run to release those endorphins, set goals and do everything you can to achieve them, if you feel alone join clubs or whatever contact friends to catchup and i know its a cliche but think positive and smile.. even if u force it it conditions ur body to react in this manner and move with energy... your emotions are triggered by your motions. the way u move etc so just be lively and keep doing things that improve ur situation not things like pitying urself or sitting there doing nothing it will just make things worse...

working out really increases my level of self confidence and makes me feel like i can do anytning when i feel the pump. I dont think gym causes depression for me it is the lack of it that does, when i dont have time to work out

Since i have been out of the gym my depression has got really bad, and because of my injury and pain with that, it makes it even worse. I find the gym is also a good place to release anger.

What symptoms are you getting that makes you think you have depression

Im with this guy lol.. thats why i think i am into MMA, i love the rush of beating someone and unleashing anger.

Depression is usually bottled-up anger, which turns into sadness.. Its almost always from childhood and teenage events, and alot of it is usually caused by family and friends, as these are the people you intereact with the most.. It really helps to see a counsellor, someone who wont judge you no matter what, that you can just talk to and vent out some **** your feeling... i almost ended my life because i had no one to talk to, or care about.. but i slowly started to realize that the only person in the world thats gonna help you, is YOU.. Its all in your head, its up to you to change it, and you have complete control over what happens in your life.

This. There's a huge difference in being depressed and having depression. Everyone goes through their lows. ****, life is nothing but a series of lows and highs. Depression, the medical condition means that almost nothing can make you happy and those periods of happiness are fleeting at best.

EDIT: if you actually think that you're depressed, see a shrink. If you have medical insurance, alot of plans will it.

Depreesion is not something that you can just forget about. Depression seems to be related to a chemical imbalance in the brain that makes it hard for the cells to communicate with one another.

Same here. I began lifting real serious after my friend died last January. Without lifting, I don't know what I would have done. Perhaps I wouldn't even be alive.

Honestly, the time where I got the most gains was when I was the most depressed. I had this stupid hoe cheat on my ass and it f'd me up pretty bad. I started lifting like a madman. From January to May, I added 50 pounds to my bench. I made the depression work for me. Not that I like being depressed, but I think I'd be massive if I were still upset or whatever.

    Good post.

Depression and anxiety are usually biochemical imbalances/disorders. If anyone suspects they have an ongoing issue they should seek out a reputable counselor in order to be correctly diagnosed. Only a nurse practitioner or psychiatrist can formally diagnose. But this is ESPECIALLY delicate to diagnose in teenagers. Get second or third opinions from reputable professionals.
Fact: My first-generation uncle was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray Robinson! He also fought in the war, sacrificing the career he deeply loved, so people could have the right to freedom.
