Years ago, I was blessed to travel around London on the Tube. It was like Christmas morning for me. As many of you know, there are signs posted that read “Mind the Gap”. There is a space between the platform and the train, and if you fall into it, you can get hurt. Back in the states, I began to run more, and I started doing 5Ks and half-marathons. Now, when a race begins, it is annoying. There are too many people, it is too crowded, and you cannot make progress. But you keep stumbling along. People begin to spread out as the fastest get ahead and the slowest lag. Soon, there comes a gap. The serious runners pull ahead; the people that thought they were serious fall behind. You see a big empty space between the two camps. I always decided not to fall in that gap. I may have been in the bag of the fast camp, but I never slowed after that point. And I urge you not to, either. I don’t care if all you do is get off the couch… many refuse to do even that. Mind the gap!
