The results of my 4 week training experiment are in. I started working out 5 days a week for 4 weeks, focusing on the same exercise, weight, and number of reps each week. I recorded RPE during the first and 4th week. Each weight selected before beginning the plan was based on prior experience, and was meant to challenge but not exhaust me during each lift. In the first week I averaged 91# per exercise and an average RPE across 3 sets of 6. I didn't record RPE in the 2nd or 3rd week, opting to leave it until the 4th week. On the 4th week, which just ended, the weight stayed the same while the RPE average dropped to 4. Overall, new weights to lift (based on RPE differences) increased by 20% on average, with some lifts like leg press going up as much as 40%. What does it all mean? It means progress can be made and you can track it as long as you do so in a measurable way. Sure, the method may not work for everyone but it works well for me.
