This pretty much sounds like Resistance Training. There is a level where we do want motivation to become automatic so getting ourselves to the gym is easier when we're feeling lazy, tired, too busy, but then again we want to be struggling with our reps, feeling it harder than the last one so as not to stall out or keep ourselves from growing. It is a constant battle of sweet spot, so you do don't burn out too early and not get bored either. Manic Monday, dunzo in my log. Can't wait for tomorrow.
