Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

I can press behind the neck now

So after years of struggling with shoulder problems I now have the mobility to do (light) presses behind the neck. I do them Paul Carter style to the ears, not the base of the neck. Question is, can I program these as a main lift once a week or is that not advisable?

I lifted seriously in the past, but didn't take my diet and other things seriously so my growth wasn't that great in 3 years. But I'm back at it again and doing everything right. No gym? No free weights? You want to work out? Look here.

In this thread I'm going to list alternative exercises to do if you don't have access to normal gym equipment. Some of it may seem a little odd, but that's probably because you don't have a sense of humor like me. The front left keg weighs 90 pounds full. 1/6 barrel. 15 pounds empty. The front...

Are paused reps good for hypertrophy or is it better for techinque?

As of now, I using paused incline bench press as an accessory to my main lifts. I maintain a 2-3 second pause at the bottom and it makes something light like 90 lbs manageable for 10 or so reps (for reference, I can press 115 lbs for reps without a pause). If pausing makes something "light" a...

Incline bench angle & arch

I thought for the longest time that I was benching with a 30 degree seat angle, but upon closer examination it’s actually 35... and the next notch down is 25. My upper chest development isn’t fantastic, and I’m wondering if a 25 degree angle would benefit me more (as well for flyes) than a 35. As...

Anyone else had this issue? I filmed myself the other day and holy crap once I get to the bottom of the motion I lean forward a ton and I slowly straighten my back out as I go back up. When I do front squats I don't seem to have that problem. It's amazing I haven't wrecked my back entirely yet....
