Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Anyone else get insane leg DOMS after heavy sumo deadlift?

Just curious. Been lifting most days for over a year now, but as my sumo goes up, so does the leg soreness. Every time after heavy day (singles or doubles) my legs are sore. And I mean SORE. I raced bikes competitively for years and never felt this level of soreness. If I so much as jump, or...

Angry Lost all bench strength

Today I was doing my push routine which starts out with flat barbell bench. I warmed up with 2 sets of light weight and then headed into my working sets. I loaded the bar with the weight I was able to do for 8 reps the last session. For some reason I wasnt able to lift the bar off the rack. I...

Dumbbell front raises simultaneously or 1 arm at a time?

In Arnold's encyclopedia he recommends to do them together, with 1 arm up and the other arm down. And then have them pass each other in front of your face. Personally, i've always done 1 full rep with the left hand and then 1 full rep with the right hand until the set was finished. Is there any...

Tailbone hurts when bending over...squats?

Every once in a while, my tailbone hurts when I bend forward. It's pretty random, but I think I've isolated it to squats. I don't even really do much weight usually (sometimes 185, and sometimes even jump squats with no weight). Have you guys ever had this? I think I read that it might be...

Rowing Machine after Surgery

Hello everyone, I am wondering if anyone has had any experience rowing after spinal surgery. Last month I underwent surgery on the C5/C6 section of my spine. For those who are probably unfamiliar – the C5/C6 section is in the upper area of your spine (in your neck region). In my case, the...

Romanian Deadlift Knee bend vs Hamstrings

Hey guys. So I have been doing Romanian Deadlifts for a while but every time i see people doing it, they have their knees bent quite a bit. When i bend my knees like that, i almost don't feel it in my hamstrings. My knees are very slightly bent just so it is not locked out. Is that an incorrect way...

Bench press: alternating strength and hypertrophy

What’s up community? I’ve got a problem: my bench press has plateaued for 2 months. Taking a week off didn’t help, and traditional volume deloads never help me break through plateaus either. I’m on Viking’s Bare Bones upper/lower, so the volume is pretty high. I’ve been progressing relatively...

Knee pain and lower body exercises

Hi all! I've been experiencing some knee pain lately. The pain isn't strong, it's more of a dull pain that is always in your awareness, but doesn't bother you that much. Best exercises for the long head tricep?

My long head tricep lacks size and i want to train it more/better. I was wondering what exercises are best for this one specifically. Personally i was thinking weighted dips and close grip bench press, but simply because they're more of a mass/compound exercise. I don't know if they are the...

Lumbar Pain from Deadlifting?

Hi. So I was deadlifting about a week and a half ago and was tired during the workout. Me being the idiot that I am, I deadlifted 315 for 5 reps, with poor form as I simply did not have enough energy to maintain good form, where the second half of the rep would be me dragging the bar up my legs...

Forearms exercises feel very choppy

Do lat pulldowns have to touch your chest?

I am able to pull with 70 lbs atm but I can only pull a few inches below my chin. I heard that it is best to let the bar touch your chest, yet pulling below my chin is enough to feel a stretch in my lats. Is this sufficient enough?

Pull ups vs. pull down cable

I have switched from lat pull downs to assisted pull ups. My reason is that there’s no cheating, no torso bend to help. I do multiple grips to hit all the back. Much better results. Still learning after 40 years in the gym.
