Sticky Thread Sticky: Training for STRENGTH vs. SIZE

MYTH: Low reps is for strength, high reps is for size. Although this contains a grain of truth, it leads to wrong thinking - the classic problem we get on this forum is the legion of novices who don't want to do novice routines because they contain 5 rep sets ... which are "for strength" not...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Beginner Powerbuilding Routine

I was asked about this by someone else, so I thought I'd share. I’m not a professional trainer, and although I do have a background in exercise physiology I have never worked in the field nor been up to date with it for the past 8 years. So you can do this if you wish, but if you get busted up, not...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Viking's The Bare Bones Series

The big guy is back with another series of novice/early-intermediate routines - The Bare Bones programs - these are actually the first routines I made, just after I got my PT certification years ago. Exclamation Sticky Thread Sticky: Full Body vs. Split Routines - Which to Choose?

Full Body Routines vs. Splits The question often arises, especially from beginners, about what type of routine to use. Your buddy told you to use a full body routine, but the muscle mags suggest a 5-day "bodybuilder" split. You don't want to start off on the wrong foot, but there is so much...

Sticky Thread Sticky: "Fierce 5" Novice Routine

FIERCE 5 I decided to design "Fierce 5" because I wasn't completely satisfied with any of the other novice programs that are so popular. In my opinion they all had a flaw or two (slow progression, high volume, low enough volume people lose interest and most of them lack what I’d consider proper...

Is there a 3-day alternative to the Fierce 5 INTERMEDIATE programme?

Hi all, I've been running the Fierce 5 novice programme for quite a while now and I'm looking to move on from it. I've looked at the 4-day Intermediate Fierce 5 Upper/Lower programme however I don't have enough time to go gym 4 days in a week. Is there a 3-day alternative that someone can...

Recomposition routine

Need a recomposition routine which doesn't require super sets. Found the German body recomposition GBC. Too many of the workouts require use of two different sets of equipment. Will be difficult to do that at the gym as others will use it. Any suggestions on routines or splits.

Question for you guys who do rp style training.

For you who like rp style volume ramping, do you log rir every week when going from 4/3 rir at start of the meso to 0 rir in the last week? Or do you only log it for the first week, then add weight, reps and sets from there, without thinking to much about rir. I think i read somewhere that you...

Is there a conventional definition for "novice," "intermediate" and "advanced"?

Beginner is pretty self-explanatory, and no one bothering to ask is elite, but this range represents what exists on this forum. I've seen multiple times that "novice" tends to be defined by one's capacity for linear progression - which makes sense as far as it goes, but the criterion is...

Not progressing whatsoever with Fierce 5 as a beginner after 2-3 months.

Dear, I am becoming increasingly frustrated by working out, because for some reason I am simply not getting stronger. As adviced by an earlier post on this forum, I have stuck with the Fierce 5 routine since the end of June. I took a break halfway through because I went on vacation for 2 weeks,...

Coming Back after Injury - Routine - Rebeginner

Trying to keep this short. 2 years ago I was a dedicated beginner, cutting, using all pro routine. Hurt my back on the stiff legged dead lifts. Went from 25% BF to 18%. Slow gains due to cutting. Didn’t like that routine, honestly. I’ve been watching my diet and am down to about 20% BF now. I...

Can you build muscle or at least maintain it with short rest periods

Im just wondering if you can build muscle with the weight trsining this program outlines. Its a three day upper/lower split and the workouts are 45 minutes each . Each body part is basically hit every 5 days for a brief effort. 6 sets in a pyramid style fashion the reps are 12 ,10 ,8, 6 ,12, 12....

6'3 (1.9 m), 170 lb (77 kg). Unique circumstances, looking for program recommendatio

I was recently (last year or so) very short on money, so all I had was a pair of 10-pound dumbbells. I tried everything I could to make the most out of it by increasing reps and doing some moderately difficult bodyweight calisthenics. I also managed to actually miscalculate my calories during...

What are the advantages of full body vs Upper/Lower?

Noobs are recommended to do full body 3 days per week and then progress to upper 3x per week and lower 3x per week on the in between days. If someone has a gym in their garage, is there any advantage to a newbie doing full body vs working 6x per week on an upper lower program? I see people...
