Sticky Thread Sticky: Official PR Thread

I have decided to start a PR thread where everybody can simply post their PR's for any given exercise including things like strongman events and oly lifts of course. THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO START YOUR OWN WORKOUT LOG. This will eliminate the need for people starting new threads to post their prs. ...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Your first meet.

This subject comes up often enough that we should simply accumulate a list of everything that should be done, and how everything should be handled, for the novice competitor. Please add things that I have forgotten, and when everyone is done, I will compile it into a comprehensive ‘how to’ guide if...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The DIY Thread: Anything and Everything You Can Make Yourself for PL and Strongman

Disclaimer: I found a TON of DIY’s, but have tried to select the most straightforward, safest, and overall best ones for each category. I have no doubt there are more/better ones out there, so please feel free to add! Also, be safe about this stuff and test it out along the way if you try these...

Sticky Thread Sticky: Forum FAQs and Links **Read Before Starting a Thread**

Number one: YES YOUR LIFTS ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO COMPETE. IF YOU CAN LIFT THE BAR AND COLLARS (25KG/55LBS), WRITE YOUR NAME ON AN ENTRY FORM, AND PAY THE ENTRY FEE YOU CAN COMPETE. NO ONE IS GOING TO LAUGH AT YOU, YOU WON'T BE EMBARASSED, YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE "COMPETITIVE" DEPENDING ON WHO SHOWS UP....

Body Composition & Resting Metabolic Rate

Was able to do a Bod Pod and resting metabolic rate test last Friday and learned a few things! 1. Body Composition There are a lot of ways you can estimate body fat. The true gold standard remains water immersion, with Bod Pod and DEXA being effective alternatives (for a link to 5 of the most...

Looking for advice, so close to my goal.

For around five years now I've been pushing for my personal goal of benching the 150 dumbbells off the chest (flat bench). Recently I've hit the 145s and I can taste the 150s, and not just by licking them when no ones looking. For about 2 months now I've been dealing with on and off shoulder...

there is one exercise we all love to hate and hate to love it is this one . A plank is a simple effective body weight exercise that requires no equipment and can be performed just about anywhere. Holding your bodystiff as a board develops strength primarily in your core - the muscle that...

USPA Western Regionals meet report/personal

Meet held in Hallmark resort/hotel in Newport Oregon. Put on by Downings Gym - a two-day event with the first day untested, the second day was drug tested. The referee team was very friendly and overall did a good job. The spotter/loader crew was outstanding, with some great saves and super...

Looks Like Eddie Hall is too Injured to Fight HafThor

Oberst wants to step in his place and challenge Thor. Oberst says he used to fight bare knuckles. I wonder if Pay Per View will pay for that show? With so many people at home from Covid, they could build it up like they did for Conner Mc so many times. i know Conner would take weeks off...

Looking for a 3 month peaking program

Hello all, I'm looking for a good 3 month peaking program. I know I'm more than 3 months out, but never too early to plan. I am 39 and will be competing in a meet in October. I been searching for one and I am having no luck on finding one that I like. I seen this one that keeps popping up:...

What is proper warmup sets leading up to one rep max?

I've been curious what's the most optimal sets and reps ramping up to a one rep max. If I'm looking to try for a 500lbs squat, what's best?

How much does body weight plays a role in the amount of weight you can lift?

lets say eddie hall weighed in well above 400 pounds when he did the 500kg (1102 pounds) deadlift. and that was a one rep max. my question is, is it humanly possible for a 130 pound guy to squat 500 pounds for 5 sets of 12 with a max 2 minutes rest in between sets?

What brand and type of weight lifting belt do you us?

Think I am almost ready to start lifting with a belt, I really only want one belt. I was about to get an inzer 10mm belt, but they sold out, not sure if I should wait till they restock it or find something else. Thank you for any advice.

Need guidance on 3s program for Deadlifts

I think my Five3One app is trying to injure me or just outright kill me in DL. A couple months back I switched from 5/3/1 to 3s to ramp up my numbers - at least that’s my logic. The app has ramped the numbers up in such high increments that after warm up, I don’t even bother doing 3 rep sets...

Herniated disk, don't know what to do

Back in July 2019, I suffered a lower back injury that turned out to be herniated disk between my L5 and S1 vertebrae. I've gone through physical therapy and done a lot of training on my core to ease the pain and give my spine more relief. Even had a cortisone shot that helped for about 3 months....
