Sticky Thread Sticky: DON'T LOOK PAST the BASICS

From what I've been reading in this forum for the past several years---and it's getting worse, not better---most posters here are, for some reason, missing the basics of fat loss, and instead, are looking for some magic bullet, or worse, putting their faith in some TV or youtube guru, or some...

Different tape measures give different measurement readings?

So I know that you need a fabric, non-stretch tape measure to take accurate measurements. I have two fabric, non-stretch measures, but one is very thin (about 1/3 of an inch) and the other is almost an inch wide. The thinner tape measure gives me measurements of 1/2 an inch smaller than the...

Help! 9 months of muscle loss

Desperate cry for help. Over last 9 months, all of the muscle I built the prior year since I started lifting has come off. I got my body fat to 3% and once I started eating more, seem to be stuck between either rapidly gaining fat or losing muscle tone. I’m 30/5’7/currently 138 10% body fat. I...

Alcohol and fat loss

Ok so I am looking to get to 10% bf and I am roughly at 11%. I drink a single whisky most nights and I am still in a moderate deficit (~500kcal) Will the alcohol affect my ability to get down to 10%? I heard that alcohol stops fat metabolism but surely if I am in a deficit I'll still be losing...

Am I going about my lean bulk correctly?

Hopefully this is the appropriate forum to post this in. Around August I had began to start a lean bulk after recently finishing a cut in which I went from 180lbs to 155lbs. It took lots of trial and error to figure out how many calories I needed to eat in order to gain on my lean bulk because my...

OK, I had been on here about a decade ago and was trying to lose weight/get stronger, but didn't have much luck on the weight loss side of the equasion, then had money and health issues (both mine and Mom on the latter) that caused me to walk away and managed to gain weight, even while I was still...

No cardio fat loss

I used to think cardio was the biggest deal on earth. I would spend hours upon hours on a weekly basis on stair Masters and treadmills and all that crap. Then I got into HIIT cardio for a couple of years. I mean just look at all the cardio queens at your gym. Do they look ripped? any of them...

Cut or bulk?

I'm currently 5'9 and about 153 lbs. I cut from 181 to 153 since September. My goal was to cut until 140 lbs since my chest fat is really stubborn or I might have gynecomastia. But a situation came up and I won't be able to access the gym for a good 10 weeks. So what should I do in this situation?...

How often do you have to lift in order to preserve muscle while cutting?

I'm doing OMAD with about a 1200 calorie per day deficit and I'm concerned about losing muscle after my winter bulk. During my winter bulk I was doing a 3 day split hitting each muscle once per week. Would continuing this be enough to not lose any muscle gains during my cut? Or should you be going...

I need to lose 4 inches off my waist by April-June

I potentially have a job interview coming up. My suit no longer fits me at all. If I do get the interview it could be in April, May June. Assuming I have to do the interview in April. Fruit and Fat Loss

Hi! So I have read various articles saying that fructose is metabolised in the liver and so any excess fructose that is not needed by the body at that time is just turned directly into fat (as fats are processed in the liver). Note: this happens even if there is not an excess of calories i.e. you...

Helping my wife lose weight, no progress is being made

Alright so I'm trying to find out what in the world is going on with her weight loss. Right now she's 5'8, 250lbs. Last March she was 273. She started this one diet by this girl she wanted to pay for and she lost 10lbs in one month (which I'm guessing majority of it was water loss from instantly...

Obese 13 year old brother...anything different he needs to do as far as diet?

I can’t remember where I heard or read this but I heard it’s not a good idea to have kids on a deficit while they’re still growing. Does anyone have any idea if there’s any truth to this? My parents are just terrible with this stuff so I’m stepping in because he’s getting worse and worse. He blew...
