Protein with carbs

Hi. After a weight resistance workout, why is it recommended to have carbs with protein. Why not just eat protein to fuel the muscles? The carbs I sometimes don't want because it's adding on more weight that I don't need. Or does carbs play a certain role instead of just energy?

Wink It's very important to eat after your workout or work.

I read online that there is a 40-minute window after significant bits of work where it is optimal for consuming calories, protein, and creatine to build muscle and optimize your biology.
