Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Lost 9 pounds of muscle, gained 2 pounds of fat

So, I'm 40 and I've been using the MyFitnessPal app. Been working out for about 7 months now three times a week with a personal trainer. My last body scan has me really discouraged: 9 pounds of muscle loss and 2 pounds of fat gain! I was 295 when I started and I'm down to 259 so I'm not really...

Your best chest exercise ?

And by best I mean the one that lights your pecs up the most - obviously there's not a 100% connection between soreness or pump and effective hypertrophy but I do feel that it's some indicator of the recruitment of the muscle when you can barely flex after a set and ache for days in the good way...

18 months of progress over 6 pictures

Some of these pics I had shared before but I am having fun with the app to put photos together in a collage. Unlike my "end of cut" and "end of bulk" pics these were all done in the bathroom mirror without a bunch of shots, no pump, and no fake tan. This first pic from 18 months ago I had...

Unhappy Bodybuilder Body-Image and Low Self Esteem

Based on several of the people I know from the gym and this forum, I am convinced that bodybuilders (vs. the general population) have a disproportionate amount of body image problems. The most recent example is a guy I know who is muscular and has so little body fat that it won't even register a...

Any benefit to doing these workouts ?

I have been lifting for a few years and in the last year I have became overly cautious with certain workouts... to the point I've tried making them safer but im not sure if doing them the way I have is still of any benefit so thought i'd ask here. Instead of using the squat rack... I have...

Breath of fresh air.

If you want to follow someone who is not your modern day fitness guru check out Joel Kellett. He is only 28 but is totally into the old school way of bodybuilding, he even looks like he came out of the 70's Recently I stopped taking all supplements, even whey protein, final came to terms that...

Feeling Horrible Need Help

I have been struggling for about a year now with just feeling like I can't recover and just feel horrible most of the time. However, I usually have 1 or 2 days a week where I feel on top of the world. It seems to come at random and I cannot figure out what is causing it. I have a pretty strict...

Am I a FAILURE?

So I am 51 years young and still think I am a machine! I go to the gym at least 3 times a week and do either a split or full body heavy weight workout (mainly compound exercises). I am in there for about an hour and it is intense, pushing myself to the limit. I have a resting heart rate of 40-50...

Which Protein Powder Do You Use & Why?

With so many powders out there and a few different variations, I was just wondering what you use and why. I have been using Gold Standard 100% Whey, but wondered if I should be using a carb/fat blend (if there is such a thing).

Posture Correctors or Correction Advice?

Do any of you guys have experience with posture correctors? If so, any recommendations? My shoulders roll forward and slump down. They have my whole life, and I have never been able to fix this. Now that I am building some muscle, it seems it is getting more pronounced.

Minor knee injury!

Around 2 weeks ago I seemed to sutain a minor knee injury. It's one of those where it didn't hurt at the time so I can't be absolute certain what caused it, but I think it was from doing heavy barbell shrugs and my knees were locked out. It isn't painful, it would even be a stretch to call it...

Squat Shoes Suitable For Some Maybe Not For Others

Hi I am currently following the novice program by davisj3537, and each week or second week my squats were going up so I was making progress slow but I was progressing. So I decided why not try and get an edge so I invested in a pair of squat shoes Adidas power perfect ll, I thought this could...

Experiment Results: Gaining Weight from Strength Training

A few weeks ago I ran an ultramarathon and put up my running shoes to focus on lifting. I decided to do an experiment. The week after the run, I weighed 150 pounds, which is where I have been the past few weeks. I sat on my butt with my feet propped up for a week - did absolutely nothing. ...

Questions on my plan/progress

I started working out with my 23-year-old son again in May after a long break due to tendinitis. Because of my busy schedule with work and school, I don't have the time to do a full workout schedule, and my son and I are only able to coordinate 2 days a week to meet up and do this. So I condensed...

Length of bulk and cut cycles?

I've been lifting for about 5.5 yrs, but recently finished my first fairly concentrated effort of a bulk and cut cycle. Well, at least the most concentrated that I have done before. I started Jan 1st at 201 lbs, and peaked at 209.8 lbs in mid-late April, so about four months of bulking. I then...

Bulking for more strength

If you are a natural lifter is there any point in bulking up so you can push more weight, because when you do a cut to lean down you will struggle to lift the weight you did when you were heavier. Or am I being defeatest and it's not as black and white as I said, I would really like to hear...

What meals do you pack for work

We spend 8 hours a day at work. Some even more. So what do you guys put in the lunch box. Is bread a complete no-no? Protein shake is at the top of my list. What else is recommended or not recommended. I'm on a calorie deficit to get rid of belly and chest fat. Breakfast is normally oats....

Heavier than I Look

I weigh around 153 lbs and I'm been told that I look like I weigh 130 lbs. I even think that I look about 15 lbs less than I actually weigh. Without lifting weights, I'd probably weigh around 130 lbs because that's what I weighed when I was 23 years old before I got back to lifting weights after...

4 Months HST Training: Review and Results

Late last year I asked if anyone had done any HST training and if the results were positive. It didn't seem like there were a lot of people who had tried it, but the few who did were positive on it. So I decided back then I would try it for a couple of splits and then report back with results, good...

Energy/motivation to lift

I'm 39...been lifting regularly for the last decade. I'm not huge but in pretty good shape. Last few months - I can't seem to get motivated to work out. I mean, I still go 90% of the time, but it feels like I'm forcing myself rather than feeling that natural desire to lift that I'm used to. ...

Push/Pull split

I'm about to start another split and I'm thinking about the benefits of a push/pull routine. I never had a workout like that before.Like....chest/triceps/shoulders & back/biceps/forearms. In fact many years ago, my split was....back+triceps & chest+biceps. Because I had the idea that...

Ready To Cut

I had to take three weeks off to let my tennis elbow heal up, so I came up four pounds short of my bulk goal of 180 lbs. Weight is currently 175 after being on maintenance for three weeks. The cut started on Tuesday, so we'll see how things go over the next few months. Someone here suggested...
