Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Anyone do 5x5's with weighted pushups before?

And wondering if you've had any success with progressive overload, gains, strength, etc. Since I'm stuck working out at home again I'm back to loading up the backpack with weight and doing push-ups. Is doing a 5x5 program...and slowly Adding weight to the bag useful as an exercise... As...

DeadLifts, Never Under 405, Update

I stared a thread earlier this year that I will never do a DeadLift workout under 405 for as long as possible. I don’t know where the thread went, but I can’t search over 2 pages. What it means is I must do at minimum 1rep with 405. I have stuck to this, but sometimes I don’t DeadLift every...

Deep Squats - form

I’m doing lighter weight but squatting deeper lately. Do you consider this a deep squat? This is only 165lbs. https://youtu.be/05H0IA4OopY

Share your injury prevention routine

Noticed I started getting injured more often after a certain age. I like to think it's because I push myself harder, but some of it is probably age-related. Things I do these days: * Spend enough time warming up using a variety of moves * Do a proper stretching routine every other day *...

Question Training for steep hill climbs?

I’m 49-years-old and a daily golfer. I’m in moderate shape. Recently because of the virus, the golf club hasn’t been offering carts, so we throw our bags onto pull carts and walk the course. It’s great exercise! I’m an avid walker, so walking 6-7 miles doesn’t wear me out — but there are four...

Back injury, looking for exercise recomendations

So, first post. I wasn't sure where to put this, so "over 35" (I'm 55) made sense. A little background: I'm 55 and was released from the air force nearly 2 years ago. Canadian. I flew Search and Rescue for 30 years (first the CH113 Labrador, then the CH149 Cormorant) and I've got a laundry...

UK gyms reopen maybe July?

No date but rumour is gyms in UK reopen July if all is well. The uk's trade association for gyms ukactive has guidance which is fairly vague https://www.ukactive.com/covid-19 but does have specific things such as workout towels banned, 3m squared per person and obvious things about cleaning....

Optimal volume (sets per muscle group per week) for those in our 50's

hey all - what is your opinion regarding volume (WORKING sets per major body part per week) in your 50's? I realize you can google this and get hundreds of answers, but looking for the actual real world opinions of those like me in our 50's (natural... only mentioning that because I know it impacts...

There's so much info on these forums that I am getting overwhelmed so I'm hoping you experts here can give me some advice on this thread. I'm a 6'5" 210 pound male who has been fairly athletic my entire life. Now that I've hit my mid-40's staying in shape has become increasingly more difficult....

Lifting after 40: maintain or progress?

Should lifters change their routine after 40, and adopt a more maintenance-oriented mindset, or keep trying to progress? I know they say heavy compound lifts in the 3-5 range is where it's at for keeping your testosterone levels high etc., but what about injury prevention, joint and vascular...

Keeping going as you get older

Hi all Wanted to create a post to understand how you keep training as you get older? I'm 48 and I've been training since I was around 14, so a decent stint. Obviously with age I expect things to get more difficult, but recently I'm struggling to recover between sessions and I get lots of...

Squats - Sore Knees

Long time lurker here needing some help. I am 55 (soon to be 56) and after a long period of not lifting, eating bad, etc. I decided to get back to the weights at the beginning of the year. After trying several different programs I landed on SL 5x5 and I'm currently at week 14 and have been...

Powerlifter decides to cut.

I've posted on here occasionally. I mostly lifted for size and strength since 15 years of age. I competed in powerlifting meets, set a state record some years ago in bench press (WNPF) as a lifetime natural. I always wanted to get bigger and stronger, didn't care about 'looking lean'. I'm...

Resistance Band Training

Hey all, I'm 39, and really looking to get back into getting my body back to what it was a few years back when I was lifting. Obviously right now is crazy with gyms being closed, and exercise equipment being inflated 3-4x what it was only a few months ago. I'm just sick and tired of how far...

Reunited.

For some reason I stopped dead lifting for about 8 months, but I'm back. This movement is just the total package when it comes to a full body exercise. I'm back only 3 weeks and tried to give 300lbs a whirl, how's the form? I do feel rusty. https://youtu.be/zfqJmqzDnTU

I had last competed in 2009 , and since had a hip replacement and got very fat! In June of 2019 I saw a picture of just how far I had fallen , and immediately got back in the gym. I have been hitting it hard for a year, with a slight break like everyone because of covid! But am excited to be 12...

When you get an injury do you stop weight training until it heals or work around it?

Advice for recovery from work

I am a custodian for a school, now with this whole covid thing, I have been doing all types of physically intense jobs, I come home almost daily, and I can hardly lift my arms. It is a job, not like working out at a gym where I can let my muscle recover for 24 - 48 hrs. No, I have to be back at...

Skinny fat - 174lb and 25-30% body fat - I don't know how to fix this

I'm male, 37 years old (I don't know why my profile says 50), I'm 174lb (12st 6), I'm 5'11 in height and from looking at example pictures on the internet I would estimate that my bodyfat percentage is somewhere between 25-30%. I'm weak and if I stand sideways and let my stomach go I look pregnant. ...

Overtraining way too easily

Im stuck in really low numbers and I cant go more than 4 weeks without "over training syndrome" even when Ive reduced my weekly volume to something that is completely minimal. Struggling with building strength, stamina, and endurance

I am 42m, 5'11". I don't look my age according to most, but I have been severely overweight for a number of years due to unhealthy eating habits, depression, and life's circumstances. Over the last 18+ months I have dropped around 60-70 lbs through healthy eating and cardio. Progress stopped a few...
